Marshal Jean Baptiste Jourdan born.

Thursday, 29 April 1762

On the 29th of April 1762 in Limoges France Jean Baptiste Jourdan was born. Although first apprentised to a silk merchant he soon joined the army and went to fight in the Americian War of Independance. 1804 he was created Marshal. He was later to be Military advisor to Joseph Bonaparte King of Spain.

At Vitoria his Marshals baton was captured and used by the Prince Regent as a 'template' for Wellingtons own Field Marshals Baton.
