Wednesday, 20 July 1774

On the 20th of July 1774 in Chatillon-sur-Seine Marshal Auguste Frederic Louis Marmont was born. Once A.D.C to Napoleon he commanded the Army at Salamanca, but was badly wounded very early in the action. In 1814 he concluded a secret treaty with the Allies and surrendered his troops.
Napoleon gave him the title 'Duke of Ragusa' but after his conduct 'Raguser' became slang for 'To betray.'
