Lord George Gordon Byron born.

Tuesday, 22 January 1788

On the 22nd of January 1788 Lord George Gordon Byron was born in Holles Street London. His father was 'Mad Jack' Byron, his mother Catherine Gordon. Although he was born club-footed, little would be able to stand in the way of the future leader of romantisism. He played at Lords in the first Eton V Harrow cricket match. As a young man at Trinity College Cambridge he kept a bear in his rooms. He was as famous for his debts and affairs as he was for his poetery. Lady Caroline Lamb described him as 'Mad, Bad and Dangerous to know.'
